New EMF Dangers – Type 3 Diabetes and Heart Disease

Offering you, with confidence, another installment of Dr. Mercola’s wisdom and proof of the worsening dangers of EMF.

One symptom of electrohypersensitivity is altered sugar metabolism similar to diabetes. In addition to type 1 and type 2 diabetes, the first video above shows that some diabetics may be electromagnetically sensitive, as shown by changes in their blood sugar when exposed to electromagnetic triggers.

One astonishing finding showed that in diabetic patients who exercised by walking outdoors, blood sugar went down as expected — but in those who exercised on a treadmill, impacted by electromagnetic fields, the blood sugar went up.

Dr. Magda Havas suggests there may not just be a type I diabetes and a type II diabetes, but also a new ‘Type III’ Diabetes related to external environmental factors.

EMF and Your Heart

In the second video above, a study has provided unequivocal evidence that the radiation from a cordless (DECT) phone interferes with your heart. This video provides evidence that electrohypersensitivity is real, is physical, and may be life threatening.

It also shows that non-thermal exposure, at levels well below federal guidelines in most countries (0.3 percent of the 1000 microW/cm2), has biological and health effects.

EMF free living

Actually, straw bale is a natural material that shields emf’s quite well. I have measured the microwave radiation outside of a straw bale building and then inside and compared. I would have to look up the exact numbers, but the reduction was dramatic.

This was a house that used bamboo to stabilize the straw bales rather than chicken wire, which is what a lot of people use. I have not had the opportunity to measure them, but I would bet that cob houses would also provide significant shielding as the walls are very thick and made of clay and straw. Dragonboard seems like another alternative, but probably much more expensive.

I had an interesting experience the other day while taking measurements in a very rural area. My readings were very low until an airplane flew over, then dropped again after the plane passed. This was not measuring radar, but microwaves in uW/cm2.

Good luck on creating a safe living space.

Neuroscience For Kids The Blood Brain Barrier (“Keep Out”)

As seen at

More than 100 years ago it was discovered that if blue dye was injected into the bloodstream of an animal, that tissues of the whole body EXCEPT the brain and spinal cord would turn blue.

To explain this, scientists thought that a “Blood-Brain-Barrier” (BBB) which prevents materials from the blood from entering the brain existed. More recently, scientists have discovered much more about the structure and function of the BBB.

Mitigate EMF

Mitigate EMF

Anatomy of the BBB
The BBB is semi-permeable; that is, it allows some materials to cross, but prevents others from crossing. In most parts of the body, the smallest blood vessels, called capillaries, are lined with endothelial cells. Endothelial tissue has small spaces between each individual cell so substances can move readily between the inside and the outside of the vessel. However, in the brain, the endothelial cells fit tightly together and substances cannot pass out of the bloodstream. (Some molecules, such as glucose, are transported out of the blood by special methods.)EMFchildren2

Glial cells (astrocytes) form a layer around brain blood vessels and may be important in the development of the BBB. Astrocytes may be also be responsible for transporting ions from the brain to the blood.

Functions of the BBB
The BBB has several important functions:

1.Protects the brain from “foreign substances” in the blood that may injure the brain.
2.Protects the brain from hormones and neurotransmitters in the rest of the body.
3.Maintains a constant environment for the brain.
General Properties of the BBB
1.Large molecules do not pass through the BBB easily.
2.Low lipid (fat) soluble molecules do not penetrate into the brain. However, lipid soluble molecules, such as barbituate drugs, rapidly cross through into the brain.
3.Molecules that have a high electrical charge are slowed.

The BBB can be broken down by:
1.Hypertension (high blood pressure): high blood pressure opens the BBB.
2.Development: the BBB is not fully formed at birth.
3.Hyperosmolitity: a high concentration of a substance in the blood can open the BBB.
4.Microwaves: exposure to microwaves can open the BBB.
5.Radiation: exposure to radiation can open the BBB.
6.Infection: exposure to infectious agents can open the BBB.
7.Trauma, Ischemia, Inflammation, Pressure: injury to the brain can open the BBB.

Circumventricular Organs
There are several areas of the brain where the BBB is weak. This allows substances to cross into the brain somewhat freely. These areas are known as “circumventricular organs”. Through the circumventricular organs the brain is able to monitor the makeup of the blood. The circumventricular organs include:

Pineal body: Secretes melatonin and neuroactive peptides. Associated with circadian rhythms.
Neurohypophysis (posterior pituitary): Releases neurohormones like oxytocin and vasopressin into the blood.
Area postrema: “Vomiting center”: when a toxic substance enters the bloodstream it will get to the area postrema and may cause the animal to throw up. In this way, the animal protects itself by eliminating the toxic substance from its stomach before more harm can be done.
Subfornical organ: Important for the regulation of body fluids.
Vascular organ of the lamina terminalis: A chemosensory area that detects peptides and other molecules.
Median eminence: Regulates anterior pituitary through release of neurohormones.

May 2009 as Electromagnetic Sensitivity (EMS) Awareness Month in Connecticut

Christiane Tourtet B.A.

Her Excellency M. Jodi Rell, Governor of the State of Connecticut, signed a proclamation declaring May 2009 as Electromagnetic Sensitivity (EMS) Awareness Month in Connecticut. As stated in the proclamation , people in Connecticut and throughout the world have developed Electromagnetic Sensitivity (EMS) as a result of global electromagnetic pollution.

Electromagnetic Sensitivity (EMS) is a painful chronic illness of hypersensitivities reactions to electromagnetic radiations for which there is no known cure. The symptoms of EMS include dermal changes, acute numbness and tingling, dermatitis, flushing, arrhythmia, muscular weakness, tinnitus, malaise, gastric problems, nausea, visual disturbances, severe neurological, respiratory, speech problems and numerous other physiological symptoms.

It is also stated in the proclamation of Her Excellency M. Jodi Rell, that Electromagnetic Sensitivity (EMS) is recognized by the Americans with Disabilities Act, the U.S. Access Board , and numerous commissions, and that the health of the general population is at risk from electromagnetic exposures, that can lead to this illness induced by electromagnetic radiations, and that this illness may be preventable through the reduction or avoidance of electromagnetic radiations in both indoor and outdoor environments and by conducting further scientific research, and that people with EMS need the support of the medical establishment, understanding of family, friends, co- workers and society as they struggle with their illness and have to adapt to new lifestyles.

Cellphone use dangerous for young people, scientists say Canada should play it safe and introduce new standards

Cellphone use dangerous for young people, scientists say Canada should play it safe and introduce new standards

By Sarah Schmidt, Canwest News Service; with a file from Cheryl Chan   March 17, 2009cell-phone-radiation

Children who use cellphones are five times more likely to contract malignant brain tumours, an international group of scientists warned yesterday.

They called on Canada and other countries to bring in tougher safety standards for cellphone use.

“I see us facing a major problem in the future because of the fact that young children are on cellphones constantly, and we may be setting ourselves up for an epidemic of brain cancer, the same thing we did with cigarette smoking and lung cancer,” said Dr. David Carpenter, director of the Institute for Health and the Environment at the University at Albany in New York State.

The research is published in the forthcoming edition of Pathophysiology.

The findings of 15 studies from health researchers in six different countries, looking at the effects of electromagnetic fields and radio-frequency radiation on living cells and on the health of humans, should jolt government agencies into action as a precautionary measure, said Carpenter, a co-author of the study.

“What stands out is the consistency of the association of exposure and disease. The evidence, as I see it, is sufficiently strong that there needs to be public warnings, there needs to be establishments of exposure guidelines and that the present guidelines — in Canada, the United States or anyone else — are not protective of human health.

Dr. Lennart Hardell, an oncologist from Sweden’s University Hospital, found that after one or more years of cellphone use, there is a 5.2-fold elevated risk of malignant brain tumour in young people who begin using mobile phones before the age of 20. The odds for other ages was 1.4.

“There should be special precaution for children and young persons about the use of mobile phones,” said Hardell.

In Canada, 71 per cent of youth between the ages of 12 and 19 have a cellphone, according to new data compiled by Toronto-based Solutions Research Group. The penetration nears 80 per cent for this age bracket in Toronto and Vancouver.

Marc Choma, a spokesman for the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association, said government agencies responsible for compiling and analyzing this body of work — including Health Canada and the World Health Organization — “continue to say that the evidence that is out there, that has been reviewed for years and years and years, that there is no demonstrated risk for human health.” Health Canada issued a statement last summer reaffirming that the department “currently sees no scientific reason to consider the use of cellphones as unsafe.

“There is no convincing evidence of increased risk of disease from exposure to radio frequency electromagnetic fields from cellphones,” it stated.

Local health agencies such as Vancouver Coastal Health do not have a position on cellphone use, but follow the lead of the B.C. Centre for Disease Control, said VCH spokesman Gavin Wilson yesterday afternoon.

“There’s been a number of studies and a lot of them indicate there is a low or very low risk of increasing the risk of brain tumours,” he said.

Wilson said the agency won’t change its position based on one study, but it will review its findings with the assistance of the BCCDC.

Evidence on health impact of electromagnetic fields

Here is a link to a 28 page report releasing scientific evidence on hazards related to electromagnetic fields.  Time is quickly running out; we have evidence and are now obligated to spread the word.clock

This report has been written by 14 (fourteen) scientists, public health and public policy experts to document the scientific evidence on electromagnetic fields.  Another dozen outside reviewers have looked at and refined the Report.

The purpose of this report is to assess scientific evidence on health impacts from electromagnetic radiation below current public exposure limits and evaluate what changes in these limits are warranted now to reduce possible public health risks in the future.

Not everything is known yet about this subject; but what is clear is that the existing public safety standards limiting these radiation levels in nearly every country of the world look to be thousands of times too lenient. Changes are needed.

New approaches are needed to educate decision-makers and the public about sources of exposure and to find alternatives that do not pose the same level of possible health risks, while there is still time to make changes.
